8 People Die in Badakhshan Due to Heavy Snowfall and Extreme Cold

Eight individuals have died and six others have been injured in Badakhshan province due to heavy snowfalls that occurred in the past 24 hours.

Human casualties were reported in the districts of Raghistan, Sheghnan, Darayim, and Yaftal in Badakhshan province on Wednesday as a result of heavy snowfall, according to sources.

A tragic incident occurred in the village of Khonilar, Raghistan district, Badakhshan, where sources say heavy snowfall caused a house roof to collapse, killing three children and injuring their parents.

The frigid cold brought on by the heavy snowfall in Darayim district claimed the lives of two elderly men.

The road in Sheghnan district of Badakhshan was slippery with ice and snow, causing an oil tanker with two people to fall into the Amu River, sources detailed, both passengers lost their lives.

Meanwhile, heavy snowfall in Yaftal district caused the roof of a house to collapse, killing one person and injuring four others.

One person died yesterday after the wall of a house collapsed in Sar-e-Pul’s second district.

The roads connecting 10 districts to Faizabad, the capital city of Badakhshan, have been blocked for traffic for the past five days due to snowfall.
