Afghan Youth Fatally Shot by Iranian Border Guards
Local sources from the Badghis and Nimroz provinces have reported the killing of an Afghan youth by Iranian border guards at the border area between Iran and Afghanistan.
The incident took place on Tuesday, May 23, at the Afghanistan-Iran border in Nimroz province.
According to local sources cited by Hasht-e Subh, the incident occurred when Iranian border guards opened fire on a group of Afghan citizens who were attempting to enter Iranian territory.
The youth who was killed has been identified as Ali Ahmad, a resident of Qala-e-Now, the center of Badghis province.
In the past month, another incident occurred where a 17-year-old Afghan teenager from Badghis province was killed by Iranian border guards.
Reports indicate that hundreds of Afghan citizens leave Afghanistan for Iran daily, seeking to escape poverty, unemployment, and security issues through smuggling routes.
It is reported that the influx of Afghan citizens entering Iran illegally and engaging in smuggling activities has increased following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.
