
Explosion in Badakhshan: 16 Dead, Including Senior Taliban Commander
Following an explosion in the center of Badakhshan province, including Mawlawi Safiullah, a senior commander of the Taliban in Badakhshan, 15 others have also been reported killed.
The explosion occurred at 10:50 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, inside the Nabawi Mosque in the Faiz-Abad city.
The blast took place during the funeral ceremony of Mawlawi Nisar Ahmad, the deputy governor of the Taliban, who was killed in an ISIS attack on Wednesday.
Health sources at the provincial hospital in Badakhshan have informed Hasht-e Subh that they have witnessed 15 bodies that have been transferred to the hospital morgue.
However, according to sources, since the process of transferring the injured is still ongoing, this number may increase.
There is no precise information available regarding the number of wounded so far, but residents of Faiz-Abad say ambulances are transporting the injured to the hospital.
According to them, after the explosion, clashes also erupted in the area and continued for a few minutes.
The nature of this explosion is not yet known.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility for the explosion so far.
Taliban security officials have confirmed the occurrence of the explosion in Badakhshan, but have not provided any information regarding the casualties.
The Taliban have disrupted telecommunication networks in the city.
Two days ago, Mawlawi Nisar Ahmad, the deputy governor of the Taliban, was killed in an attack claimed by ISIS.
