Explosion of Unexploded Ordnance in Kandahar Results in One Fatality and Two Injured Children

Local sources in Kandahar province have reported that an explosion of unexploded ordnance in the Khakrez district has resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to two children.

According to the sources, the incident took place in the Sargaw Kariz area of the Khakrez district on Monday, May 22.

The injured children, aged six and three, are currently receiving medical treatment, with reports indicating that the condition of one of the children is critical.

It is worth mentioning that unexploded ordnances have consistently claimed the lives of civilians, especially children, in various parts of the country.

Furthermore, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) states that more than 700 children were killed or injured in Afghanistan in 2022 due to explosive remnants.

On Monday, May 22, OCHA tweeted that this statistic represents, on average, the death and injury of two children per day.
