Fire in a Drug Production Factory in Ghor Province Leaves One Dead and Three Injured

According to local sources in Ghor province, a fire broke out in a drug production factory located in the Kamanj region of the Shahrak district, resulting in one fatality and three injuries.

The fire reportedly occurred on Wednesday, May 10, while employees were engaged in the process of drug preparation at the factory.

All the injured, who were employees of the factory, have been transferred to the Shahrak health center for treatment.

The Taliban have confirmed the incident, but have not provided any further details.

Despite the Taliban’s repeated condemnation of drug production and trafficking, this incident highlights the ongoing challenges in enforcing the group’s decrees at the local level. Following the Taliban’s re-capture of Afghanistan, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the group’s leader, issued a decree banning the cultivation, purchase, and trafficking of drugs.

However, this decree, which was issued from Kandahar, has not been enforced, and local Taliban officials in the provinces have not taken any practical steps in this regard.
