Former University Lecturer Arrested for Alleged Provocation Against Taliban
Abdulhaq Hammad, the Taliban-appointed publications department director of the Information and Culture Ministry, has accused Ismail Masha’al, a former university lecturer, of provocative actions against the Taliban government.
Masha’al’s detention was confirmed via Twitter on Thursday night by the Taliban-appointed director of publications at the Information and Culture Ministry.
Adding that Masha’al had invited journalists and created a crowd on the street, Hammad said he was detained by Taliban fighters to be interrogated.
Masha’al was treated respectfully, Hammad said, despite his provocations against the Taliban.
Masha’al recently quit teaching at the university to protest against the ban on university education for women in Afghanistan and started handing out books to young people on the streets.
