8 Subh; Kabul: The US Department of State announced that Zalmai Khalilzad, US Special Envoy for Afghanistan, a new round of his trips to the region has began. Khalilzad is scheduled to travel to Afghanistan, Qatar and some other countries in the region.
According to the US Department of State, Khalilzad is accompanied by a delegation from the United Nations Security Council, US Deportment of Defense and United States Agency for International Development. This trip started on the forth of June.
During its visit to Kabul, the delegation met with government leaders, politicians, representative of civil society and women to hear their views on the peace process.
The State Deportment says the delegation will reaffirm US support for Afghanistan’s development and will announce a political agreement to end the war.
During his visit, Khalilzad will urge the government and the Taliban to take serious steps towards advancing the peace process that will protect Afghanistan’s recent achievement.
The US Special Envoy for Afghanistan will also meet with regional leaders during the visit.
According to the US Department of State, the focus of these meetings is the Afghan peace process and the increase in regional trade and development that peace makes possible.
The new round of Zalmai Khalilzad’s visits has begun as some of the government’s negotiating members have returned to Doha to resume talks with the Taliban. So far, the third round of talks between the two sides has not begun.
