Newly Engaged Girl Shoots Herself Dead in Badakhshan

A newly engaged girl committed suicide by shooting herself in the head in Badakhshan province, in north-west Afghanistan.

Local sources said that the 18-year-old girl ended her life on Tuesday night in Ghojan village of Raghistan district.

Locals and witnesses detailed the girl was recently engaged to a boy.

The Taliban-appointed head of information and culture department for Badakhshan, Moezuddin Ahmadi, also confirmed the occurrence of this incident, saying that an investigation was underway.

The young girl apparently killed herself due to forced marriage.

Since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, suicides among women have repeatedly taken place, and forced marriages have been said to be the main reason.
