Number of female police officers to be increased to ten thousand

Kabul, 8 Subh: The Interior Minister reported that according to a plan prepared by the ministry, the number of female soldiers in the police force would be increased to 10,000.

Speaking at a government accountability meeting on Tuesday, March 2, Interior Minister Mohammad Masood Andarabi said that 4,000 women were currently working in the police force. Andarabi said the Interior Ministry had prepared a future plan for women police officers. According to him, increasing and expanding the presence of women in the police force is part of this program, which will be implemented by 2024.

The interior minister explained that as half of the country’s population is made up of women, the number of female police officers needs to be increased to address women’s issues and provide services to them.

Mohammad Masood Andarabi stressed that expanding the presence of women in the police force, which included raising the level of knowledge, capacity and increasing the presence of women in the upper and middle levels, was also part of the future plan for the police.

It must be recalled that Omar Dawoodzai, the former Interior Minister, had promised in 2013 that the number of female police soldiers would be increased to 10,000.
