The US special representative for Afghan women’s affairs has said that Afghan women are real heroes and have stood up against threats, violence, and prisons.
She expressed this on late Tuesday night, November 29, by publishing a tweet on the occasion of the International Day of Women’s Human Rights Defenders.
She added: “On the International Day of Women’s Human Rights Defenders, it is difficult to find a more inspiring example of courage than the Afghan women and girls who fight for the right to education and work and to feed their families.”
Mrs. Amiri stated: “They are real heroes and they stand against threats, violence and prisons. “World leaders, especially Muslim-majority countries, must send a strong, unified message about the costs of stability and prosperity if half the population is not allowed to do so.”
According to her, the full participation of women in the public sphere should remain non-negotiable.
Meanwhile, at the 10th security summit of Herat yesterday, Thomas Nicholson, the European Union’s special representative for Afghanistan, expressed concern about the situation of Afghan women and stressed that the Taliban must respect women’s rights.
