Rising Tide of Tragedy: Young Woman Commits Suicide in Kandahar

Local sources in Kandahar have reported that a young woman has committed suicide in the province. The woman, identified as Zarina, hanged herself on the night of Saturday, May 20, in Gonbadi village, located in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar.

According to local sources, Zarina was 22 years old and a resident of Maroof district in Kandahar. Her husband, who had been detained by the Taliban, stated that she suffered from a mental illness.

The body of Zarina has been transferred to the forensic medicine department by the Taliban, but no signs of beating or torture have been observed on her body.

The reason for Zarina’s suicide is still unknown.

Incidents of women’s suicide have been on the rise in various provinces of Afghanistan. Just last week, a woman and a young girl also took their own lives in Farah province, following what was reported as domestic violence.
