The 16 days of activism against gender-based violence is an annual campaign that begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and runs through International Human Rights Day on 10 December.
In a tweet on Saturday, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres declared the start of a 16-day campaign regarding the issue, calling on everyone to get involved against gender-based violence.
“As we begin 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, I call on everyone to get involved,” said Guterres.
“From amplifying the voices of survivors & activists to supporting women’s organizations, we can all act & help protect women’s rights,” he added.
In another tweet, he called on the world to financially support the organizations that stand for the rights of women.
“I call on governments to increase funding by 50% by 2026 to women’s rights organizations & movements. Let’s take a stand and raise our voices in support of women’s rights,” he tweeted.
The 16-day campaign against gender-based violence is being held around the world, while Afghanistan is one of the victims of this type of violence in the world, based on reliable global reports.
