The Ministry of Interior of Pakistan has issued a stern warning to Afghan refugees residing in the country, stating that any support or involvement in political or electoral activities on the eve of the upcoming general elections is deemed illegal.
According to a report by the Dan newspaper on Wednesday, November 29, the ministry emphasized in its statement the illegality of Afghan residents supporting or providing financial assistance to electoral candidates.
The ministry’s statement further indicated that migrants failing to comply with this directive would face expulsion, irrespective of their legal status.
In addition to cautioning Pakistani citizens against engaging in the employment of illegal foreigners or assisting them in establishing businesses within the country, the Ministry of Interior urged Pakistani nationals to report any instances of employing illegal foreigners or those facilitating their employment.
This directive comes at a time when Pakistan is gearing up for the general elections scheduled to take place on February 8, 2024.
It is noteworthy that the process of expelling illegal Afghan migrants from Pakistan has been underway for some time.
