Women Protested in Response to the Dissolution of the Ministry of Women

8 Subh, Kabul: Many women gathered in front of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs on Sunday, September 19.

They chanted slogans such as “Freedom and Equality”, “Elimination of women equal to the exclusion of human beings”, “Freedom of expression is the result of our efforts” and “Let’s move towards prosperity by providing women with education, work and freedom”.

Last Friday, the Taliban took down the plaque of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in downtown Kabul. Instead, they have raised the banner of the newly established Ministry of Invitation, Guidance, Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil. This move has provoked them to protest.

The Taliban, however, do not provide a reason for dissolving the Ministry of Women’s Affairs but said they were working on an alternative.
