Kabul – The United States Department of Defense (Pentagon) has begun its investigation into the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, the US media have reported.
“The team tasked with overseeing the US withdrawal from Afghanistan began work last week,” the Pentagon said in a statement today Wednesday, December 8.
The team is set to investigate cases following the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in August this year.
According to the Doha peace agreement between the US and the Taliban, US troops left Afghanistan in August this year. After the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, the Taliban intensified their attacks and finally captured Kabul on August 15 and overthrew the former regime.
“The Pentagon is committed to understanding what has happened in Afghanistan. Therefore, the ministry has started its investigations into the withdrawal of the US and the changes that took place after the withdrawal,” said Rob Ludwig, Pentagon spokesman.
Rob Ludwig, however, did not specify how long the team would complete its review of developments after the US withdrawal.
“The team started its work last week, so I have no new information at the moment,” said Ludwig.
On the other hand, the team has begun its investigation into the US withdrawal from Afghanistan while Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) has previously published a report on the lessons learned from the US 20-year war in Afghanistan. It had been said that political changes in Afghanistan were due to an incoherent strategy and unrealistic timing.
