8 Subh; Kabul: The operation of Kabul Central Silo is scheduled to resume soon after a 30-year hiatus.
Atiqullah Biqarar, the head of the Central Silo, told 8 Subh that the production of bread in the Central Silo with two baking ovens will begin in the near future.
The Central Silo started operating 65 years ago.
In the past, the factory was used as a place to bake and distribute bread to government offices and universities.
In the beginning, the activity of this silo started with a storage capacity of 20,000 tons of wheat and a mill.
The central silo at that time operated with a production capacity of 60 to 90 tons of flour in 24 hours.
A bakery with a production capacity of 52.7 tons of bread and cookies was active in the central silo for 24 hours.
According to Atiqullah Biqarar, the central silo had an annual income of 4,300 million Afghanis before 1992, of which 500 million was the factory’s income.
Of this, 100 million was transferred to the government account.
The company now has an annual income of no more than 35 million Afghanis.
It is worth mentioning that the central silo had two thousand employees from the beginning of its activity until before the civil wars, and now that number has dropped to 133 employees.
