At least 21 Iraqi citizens were killed and 19 others injured after a passenger bus overturned and caught fire near the city of Nasiriyah in southern Iraq.
Iraqi police and health officials said the incident occurred on Sunday, June 7, when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle on a highway near Nasiriyah. The bus overturned and subsequently burst into flames.
Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani has ordered an investigation into the cause of the accident and instructed relevant authorities to provide a full report.
According to officials, several of the injured are in critical condition and were transferred to hospitals with severe burn injuries.
Security authorities said investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.
Traffic accidents are a recurring problem in Iraq, where speeding, poor road conditions, and weak enforcement of traffic regulations are frequently cited as major causes of fatalities.
