Three days after a devastating earthquake struck Herat, survivors are expressing their dissatisfaction with the scant aid provided by relief organizations.
Victims in the Zenda-Jan district of Herat province spoke to Hasht-e Subh on Monday, October 9th, stating that they have received some help from the public but nothing substantial from relief agencies so far, except for a tent.
A resident from Sanjab village in Zenda-Jan district lamented, “All our homes here are destroyed. Until now, institutions have only given us a tent; nothing else has been provided. We are grateful to the people who brought us bread, blankets, and water.”
These survivors, who have endured severe earthquakes in multiple villages of the Zenda-Jan district, are now living without shelter and urgently seeking assistance.
Meanwhile, three days have passed since the strong earthquakes in Herat, and today the Herat region experienced at least three more tremors.
According to the latest statistics, this earthquake has claimed the lives of 2,600 people so far, and thousands of houses have been destroyed due to this natural disaster.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Afghanistan has also stated that search and rescue operations in the earthquake-stricken areas of Herat are still ongoing, and the number of casualties from this earthquake may increase.
