Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone call with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss bilateral relations and regional and global developments.
According to Turkey’s state broadcaster TRT, which reported on Wednesday, April 15, the call took place the same day, during which both sides emphasized expanding cooperation between Ankara and Ottawa.
Erdoğan said in the conversation that Türkiye attaches importance to strengthening relations with Canada and highlighted cooperation in the fields of energy, defense industries, and aviation transport.
He also added that Türkiye continues its efforts to promote peace and stability in the region and shares common views with Canada on certain issues.
According to the report, Erdoğan invited the Canadian prime minister to attend a NATO meeting in Ankara and the “COP31” conference, which is expected to be hosted by Türkiye.
The Turkish president also expressed hope that he will host Carney on an official visit to Türkiye before the end of 2026.
