Local Taliban officials have reported a tragic incident resulting in the loss of life for a farmer due to the explosion of a leftover landmine from past conflicts in the province.
The incident unfolded around 10:00 AM on Monday, April 8th, in the vicinity of the Kot district.
Abdul Basir Zabuli, spokesperson for the Taliban’s security command in Nangarhar, has refrained from providing further details regarding the identity of the individual affected.
In parallel, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) disclosed on Friday, April 4th, that nearly 45,000 individuals have been killed or injured in the country due to mine explosions during decades of conflict.
The organization emphasizes that landmines and unexploded ordnance still present a grave threat to the lives of citizens in the country, especially children.
