Reports from local sources in Badakhshan unveil a distressing scene as approximately 55 shops and stalls, along with their entire inventory, fell victim to a raging fire within the confines of the esteemed “Medina Bazaar” situated in the Keshm district of this province.
The inferno believed to have ignited from an electrical short circuit, erupted on the somber night of Friday, April 5, casting a shadow of devastation across the bustling marketplace.
Sources divulged to the esteemed Hasht-e Subh Daily that swift action from locals ensued, quelling the flames and containing their voracious spread.
While the full extent of the damages incurred remains to be assessed comprehensively, initial reports suggest a grim toll: five gold shops reduced to ashes, alongside an additional 50 clothing stalls meeting a similar fate.
Mohammadullah, a distressed gold trader amidst the rubble of the Medina Bazaar, lamented a staggering loss, asserting that over 2,500,000 Afghanis of his shop’s capital had been engulfed by the merciless flames.
Curiously absent from the discourse, the Taliban have remained reticent thus far.
It bears recalling that this lamentable incident echoes a prior calamity, as, on November 30 of the preceding year, a conflagration had ravaged approximately 20 shops within the precincts of the Keshm district’s bazaar in Badakhshan.
