Georgette Gagnon, the Acting Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), has visited the provinces of Balkh and Samangan.
UNAMA reported on Sunday, May 24, that during the visit, Gagnon met with Taliban officials, several male and female business owners, and returning migrants.
According to the report, she also discussed the economic and social challenges and opportunities facing women entrepreneurs during her meetings with them.
The UNAMA acting head said, “The United Nations is here to support the Afghan people.”
The visits come as Afghanistan continues to face major humanitarian, economic, and social challenges.
A large part of the Afghan population, especially women, continues to face severe restrictions in employment, education, and access to basic services.
