The head of the women’s division of Human Rights Watch says that many Afghan women are rebellious and disobedient to following the Taliban’s orders regarding their behavior, and the Taliban force their men to control them and impose restrictive living codes.
She tweeted on Sunday, October 23: “Many Afghan women are disobedient and reject the Taliban’s orders about their behavior. Therefore, the Taliban are increasingly trying to force male family members, shopkeepers, and taxi drivers to cooperate with them in imposing restrictions against women.” But the strategy will not work as the men want freedom too.
This is despite the fact that António Guterres, the Secretary General of the United Nations, also said two days after the Security Council meeting under the name “Women, Peace and Security” that only with the leadership and equal participation of women, the societies will entertain peace and development.
According to her, evidence shows that peace agreements are more sustainable when women are provided an active part in decision-making matters of the nation.
