The Iranian Embassy in Kabul has announced the signing of a cooperation agreement between the chambers of commerce of Iran and the Taliban.
In a message released on Saturday, November 22, the embassy said the agreement enhances the prospects for private-sector collaboration between the two sides.
The Taliban, Uzbekistan, and Iran have also announced the creation of a joint chamber of commerce.
This development comes after Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban’s acting minister of industry and commerce, traveled to Iran last week to expand trade ties and transit cooperation.
The Taliban official has also traveled to New Delhi to discuss the use of Iran’s Chabahar Port as an option for transporting Afghan goods to India.
Following recent military and diplomatic tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan, trade between the two sides has been halted.
The Taliban have urged traders to identify alternative trade routes to Pakistan within the next three months.
