Local sources say that Juma Khan Fateh has rejected a meeting with Fasihuddin Fitrat, the Taliban’s chief of army staff, and clashes between fighters from the two sides are continuing in Badakhshan.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday, August 16, that following the rejection of the meeting, a verbal dispute broke out between Fasihuddin Fitrat and the Taliban commander.
According to the sources, Fasihuddin Fitrat called for an end to the fighting, but the Taliban commander did not agree to a ceasefire.
The sources say fighting is continuing in the Doabgi area, while both sides have also fired heavy weapons from Nusay toward Delwakh.
According to the sources, a DShK heavy machine gun belonging to Juma Khan Fateh’s fighters was captured by the Taliban in the “Oring” area, and four of Fateh’s men were also taken prisoner.
The sources claim that the captured men may have been killed, but this claim has not yet been confirmed.
Meanwhile, several residents of Nusay have left the area and headed toward Faizabad amid the continuing clashes. Movement between Nusay and Shekay has also been blocked.
The sources add that several miners who were not allowed to enter Nusay have also joined Juma Khan Fateh and taken up arms.
