Kabul – Since the Taliban seized power in August 2021, the women and girls have been isolated and have lost the basic rights of access to education, the rights of working outside the house, and several restrictions are imposed on women working outside the house. On the occasion of 8th March (Women’s Day), nearly 80,000 women’s rights advocates and activists have signed a petition, calling on the international community’s attention to put pressure on Taliban authorities to respect human rights and facilitate the opportunities for women to practice their rights in Afghanistan.
In addition, Amnesty International, South Asia division supports the signatories’ demands from International Community and emphasizes on basic rights of women in Afghanistan.
The signatories call on the world leaders to protect women’s rights in the country and to hold Taliban officials accountable for women’s rights.
Despite several cases of violence, mysterious murders, rape, torture, target killings, and detention of women’s rights activists by Taliban militants, International Women’s Day is being celebrated in the country.
