Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has announced that citizens of Afghanistan are prohibited from studying medicine and dentistry at universities in Pakistan until further notice.
The council said in an official letter on Thursday, August 13, that the decision was made following the receipt of policy guidelines from the competent senior authorities and based on a decision by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) on July 30, 2026.
According to the letter, students from Afghanistan studying medicine and dentistry in Pakistan must return to Afghanistan.
The new admission of students from Afghanistan to these fields has also been suspended until further notice.
The letter states that the transfer or relocation of students from Afghanistan between universities and medical institutions has also been suspended.
It further states that students who have completed their studies must have their graduation status and departure from Pakistan recorded and verified.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has stressed that the directive does not apply to just one university, but covers all public and private medical and dental universities in the country.
Under the directive, the relevant universities and institutions are required to submit a comprehensive report on students from Afghanistan to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council within three days.
The letter emphasizes that the matter is of the highest importance and is linked to Pakistan’s national policy.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has warned that any delay, negligence, concealment of information, or failure to comply with the directive will be seriously investigated and could result in legal action.
