Dozens of protesting women took to the streets on Thursday near Shah-e Do-Shamshera shrine in central Kabul, calling on the Taliban to respect Afghan women’s rights.
The protesting women have been chanting slogans: “women, life, solidarity”, “no society can be prosperous without women” and “we will fight for our rights until the end”.
The protestors call on more women to join their marches by chanting the slogan “get up, get up.”
After the arrest of Zarifa Yaqoobi and a number of other women’s rights activists in Kabul, this is the first street protest by women in Kabul city.
Previously, the Taliban have violently suppressed women’s protests in Kabul.
