The Supreme Court of the Taliban has confirmed the punishment of three individuals through public flogging in Faryab province. They were charged with “extramarital relations and fleeing from home.”
In a statement released on Monday, April 1st, the Taliban’s Supreme Court disclosed that the verdict was carried out in Dawlatabad district, Faryab province, the previous day.
The statement further revealed that, in addition to the public flogging, one of the convicted individuals has been sentenced to three and a half years of imprisonment, while the remaining two have been handed one year and one month of disciplinary incarceration each.
This recent incident follows the previous announcement by the Taliban’s Supreme Court regarding the flogging of six individuals charged with “deception” in Khost province.
In recent weeks, there has been a surge in the enforcement of desert courts by the Taliban across various regions of the country.
Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban, reiterated in his latest remarks the group’s commitment to what he termed “the implementation of Sharia law,” emphasizing their intent to reintroduce punishments such as stoning for women and the administration of lashes.
