The Supreme Court of the Taliban has reported the whipping of two individuals on charges of “sodomy” in Khost Province.
On Tuesday, April 2nd, the Taliban Supreme Court disclosed in a press release that this ruling was executed following the decision of the criminal court of the provincial primary court, conducted publicly.
According to the press release, aside from the whippings, each accused individual has also been sentenced to five months and eighteen months of imprisonment, respectively.
Over the past two days, the Taliban have carried out public whippings on at least nine individuals facing various charges in Khost and Farah provinces.
Yesterday, six individuals were also whipped on charges of “deception” in Khost Province by the Taliban.
These events coincide with recent statements from Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, underscoring the group’s commitment to carrying out punishments for suspects, with a particular emphasis on public executions, especially targeting women.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has recently urged the Taliban to immediately cease executions and any form of physical punishment.
