Sources in Kabul confirmed that Taliban forces arrested Mawlawi Din-Mohammad Azimi, a former deputy head of the Electoral Complaints Commission.
His relatives confirmed to Hasht-e Subh that the Taliban had arrested him at around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday (January 6th) in the Qasba area of Kabul.
Azimi’s relatives said that he reported home after his arrest. But the Taliban have not told them why he was detained.
Din-Mohammad Azimi was the former deputy head of the Electoral Complaints Commission. He has also served as a representative of the people of Ghor in Afghanistan’s National Assembly and the deputy governor of Ghor.
He is a prominent member of the Jamiat-e-Islami party.
The incident comes as the Taliban announced a general amnesty after taking control of Kabul.
Taliban officials have not yet commented on Mr. Azimi’s arrest.
