Taliban security officials in Badakhshan province report that Tajik border forces detained a 25-year-old youth on charges of smuggling “hashish” drugs. He tragically lost his life after jumping into the river to escape.
Ehsanullah Kamgaar, spokesperson for the Taliban security command in Badakhshan, stated on Sunday, April 28, that the incident occurred in the Shighnan district of the province. According to him, the young man, a resident of Takhar province, operated a shop in the joint market on the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border.
The Taliban security command spokesperson added that efforts are underway to locate the body of the deceased, which has not yet been found.
This incident follows Tajik border forces shooting dead at least seven Afghan citizens who illegally entered Tajikistan in April of this year. The shooting occurred after these individuals crossed the border village of Naw Abad in Chah Ab district, Takhar province.
