The Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has announced that Hibatullah Akhundzada, the group’s leader, has endorsed the “Police Law,” whose Article 50 bans all demonstrations in Afghanistan.
The Taliban ministry announced on Saturday, August 22, that the “Police Law” consists of a preamble, two chapters, five sections and 53 articles.
According to the ministry’s statement, the law outlines the duties of the Taliban’s police in various areas.
The Taliban have recently changed the name of their police force to “Shurta,” following the practice of some Arab countries.
Article 50 of the Taliban’s law states: “Any demonstration within the territory of Afghanistan is prohibited.”
Since returning to power in Afghanistan, the Taliban have violently and harshly suppressed protests, demonstrations, rallies, and civil dissent.
