The Taliban cabinet has approved a plan to reduce street vendors’ fees by 40 percent. This decision follows strict regulations imposed two years ago, which required vendors to pay taxes based on their place of operation.
Hamidullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban, stated on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, that the plan for a 40 percent fee discount was approved by the cabinet after receiving the leadership’s endorsement.
The plan was ratified during the twenty-first cabinet meeting, chaired by Mohammad Hassan Akhund, the Taliban’s Prime Minister. This marks a shift in policy toward street vendors.
The Taliban have been confiscating vendors’ carts from roadsides, releasing them for payment. A new decree now allows vendors to operate on roadsides after 4 p.m.
