Local sources in the province of Herat report that the Taliban have detained six employees from the municipal office and maritime department of Morghab Harirod for trimming their beards.
On Tuesday, December 18, sources confirmed to the Hasht-e Subh Daily that these individuals were imprisoned for one day by the Taliban’s “promoting virtue and preventing vice” directorate in Herat. They were deprived of “eating bread, drinking water, and using the restroom.”
According to the sources, the Taliban are monitoring their governed offices in Herat and identifying employees who have trimmed or shortened their beards, subsequently imprisoning them in containers.
This incident mirrors a similar event on July 30 of this year when the Taliban incarcerated several government employees in Herat for trimming their beards in a “container.”
The group continues to subject some of the youth in various provinces of the country to humiliation and abuse by detaining them for reducing or trimming their beards and hair.
