Local sources in Herat have reported that the Taliban are actively collecting information about former military personnel in the province, raising concerns among residents.
On Saturday, December 30th, insiders informed Hasht-e Subh Daily that in the “Kura-e Melli” area of the Jabraiel district, located in the 13th district of Herat city, the Taliban approached the county councilors and council leaders, requesting them to provide details about former government forces.
According to the sources, the Taliban explicitly instructed the county councilors to identify military personnel currently residing in the area, compelling them to share information such as home addresses and contact numbers of those who have relocated abroad.
This directive from the Taliban has stirred anxiety among military personnel and their families, who fear that the group may be planning to target or eliminate former government forces.
The initiation of this information-gathering process by the Taliban follows the recent assassination of Shiite scholars in the Jabraiel area of Herat, intensifying concerns about the group’s motives.
As of now, the Taliban has not issued any official statements regarding this matter in Herat. It is crucial to note that the group has previously engaged in similar activities, collecting information about former military personnel in various provinces across the country. In some instances, they have gone as far as detaining and imprisoning these individuals.
