According to The Telegraph, a Western official has said that since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, the rights of women and girls and their access to education, employment, freedom of movement, and participation in public life have been restricted.
According to the report, the official said on Thursday, August 20, that women who had previously worked as judges, doctors, teachers, government employees, and civil society leaders are now confined to their homes.
The former official, who spent much of his mission in Helmand, added that he had also been involved in efforts to disrupt the Taliban’s drug trade.
He said that at the time, progress had been made in reducing the shipment of Afghan heroin to Britain and other European countries.
This comes as women’s and girls’ rights and freedoms in Afghanistan have been severely restricted since the Taliban returned to power in 2021.
