Turkish authorities have apprehended 39 Afghan refugees who were discovered concealed inside a vehicle within the country’s borders.
As reported by the Anatolia News Agency on Wednesday, February 21, the refugees were intercepted in Düzce Province, Türkiye.
These individuals had been concealed among boxes of tissue paper within the vehicle and were apprehended in the Çilimli district of Düzce Province.
According to the report, “Joint efforts by the anti-narcotics units of Düzce Province and gendarmerie teams of Çilimli led to the operation, resulting in the interception of a vehicle in the Arabajy area. Upon inspection, it was found that 39 Afghan nationals were hidden among boxes of tissue paper.”
Following legal procedures, the detainees will be transferred to the immigration office of Düzce Province.
Additionally, the driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody on charges related to human trafficking.
This incident follows a similar occurrence in December of last year when Turkish security forces detained 18 Afghan refugees in Bitlis Province.
