A car bomb attack on the Sayed Ul-Shuhada school in western Kabul is a crime against humanity. This attack is a sign of the thirst to kill in terrorist groups active in the country. The attack is also a sign of the weakness of security agencies in preventing terrorist attacks on civilian places, public facilities and defenseless civilians. The government has a responsibility to identify the perpetrators of this crime against humanity and to punish them in the light of the law. Security agencies should also see the attack on theSayed Ul-Shuhada school as an alarm that warns of similar attacks in other parts of the country. This attack should be condemned as the most obvious example of a crime against humanity at the national and international levels, and the perpetrators should be held accountable.
Unfortunately, attacks on civilians have increased in the new phase of the war in the country. Eight days before the deadly attack on west of Kabul, entrance exam examinees were targeted by a car bomb in the capital of Logar province. At least 24 people were killed and 110 others were injured in an attack on Logar on April 30. The attack was widely condemned as a crime against humanity.
On May 5, a vehicle carrying public health workers in Panjshir province in the Kalakan district, north of Kabul, was attacked. The attack, which resulted in casualties, is a sign of the lack of separation between the military and civilians by terrorist groups and the violation of international law of war and international humanitarian law in the current war in the country.
Four days ago, Nematullah Rawan, a speaker and media activist, was assassinated in Kandahar. Earlier, several journalists and media activists in other provinces of the country were targeted.
Even civilians during prayer are not safe in the country. Terrorist groups operating under the name of Islam have repeatedly attacked worshipers. Just ten days ago, seven worshipers were shot dead in Baghlan. A year ago, in the same month, eight other worshipers were shot dead in Parwan.
Violence against civilians shows that no one and no group in Afghan society is immune to terrorist acts. Unfortunately, nothing has been done so far against terrorist attacks on civilians except condemnation.
The current unbridled violence must be taken seriously. The reason for the current surge in violence of terrorist groups is because the previous violence of these groups were ignored. The world must not remain silent in the face of this violence. If the current violence is not stopped, the future of Afghanistan will be much worse than it is now.
Unfortunately, western Kabul has witnessed the largest number of terrorist incidents in recent years. ISIL has largely claimed responsibility for the attacks.
The attacks in western Kabul were clearly against a particular religious sect and ethnic group. Most of the victims of these attacks were students. In the same attack that took place yesterday, according to preliminary statistics, 30 people were killed and 52 others were injured. If security measures are not intensified in Kabul, especially in the vulnerable western part of the city, there will be other similar attacks.
It should be emphasized that attacks on public and civilian facilities have increased in the country. These attacks, while violating international humanitarian law and the international law of war, are also rejected and condemned from the perspective of Islam. However, the explosion of a bridge in Kandahar and the power towers in the north of Kabul are some of the recent events that have taken place in the country. The number of civilian casualties has also been very high in recent weeks. The death toll will rise further as fighting continues in residential areas in a number of provinces. Civilian lives in Afghanistan are now more threatened than ever. The risk of escalating violence and the possibility of an increase in civilian casualties in the country must be taken seriously. The world must force the parties to the war in Afghanistan to respect the lives of civilians. Otherwise, many crimes will take place in this country.
