Following reports of multiple explosions in Isfahan, Iran, CNN quoted a US official confirming them as the result of an Israeli attack. Iranian state media also reported the explosions on Friday morning, April 19.
Fars News Agency added that they occurred near the Shikari military base in northwest Isfahan, where Iranian army jets are stationed. The same source mentioned that unidentified objects targeted by air defense systems caused the explosions in Isfahan’s skies.
The unnamed US official informed CNN that Washington anticipated Tel Aviv to avoid targeting non-military and nuclear sites in Iran before Friday night’s attack. Consequently, flights to Tehran, Isfahan, and Shiraz were suspended.
These explosions coincide with Israeli authorities’ promise of retaliation following Iran’s missile attacks. Despite Israel not yet claiming responsibility for the attack, concerns about escalating tensions in the Middle East have heightened. Additionally, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian warned that Tehran’s response to Israeli action would be severe and extensive.
