Kabul – The US top envoy for peace in Afghanistan Tom West in his trip to Brussels has said that he had discussed with the US allies in NATO a roadmap for recognizing the Taliban caretaker government in Afghanistan.
Tom West in his trip to Belgium told reporters on Monday, (November 8) that he had traveled to Brussels to consult with US allies in NATO on a future solution for peace in Afghanistan.
The US special representative added that during his visit to Brussels with his country’s allies in NATO, he discussed how to recognize the Taliban caretaker government, according to Reuters.
“The Taliban have clearly stated their desire to normalize relations with the international community, resume aid, return the international diplomatic community to Kabul and reduce sanctions, and the US cannot do any of these things alone,” the US envoy said.
So far, the US government has not decided to reduce the liquidity crisis in the country and create a way for dollars to enter Afghanistan through private banks to pay the salaries of Taliban government employees, he added.
Meanwhile, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan spoke about the release of Afghanistan’s foreign exchange reserves to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in the country on Monday, (November 8), “Until we see a fundamental improvement in the Taliban approach to governance, including the formation of an inclusive government and other issues with which we are discussing in turn, we will not pay their government.”
Moreover, the US is ready for the next round of Doha peace talks with the Taliban, US top envoy said.
Tom West is supposed to travel to Pakistan, India, and Russia as part of his ongoing trip about Afghanistan.
On the other hand, the US is deeply concerned about the escalation of Islamic State of Khurasan Province (ISKP) attacks and the consistent presence of Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, and Al-Qaeda’s presence in the country is the only issue that worries the country in its dialogue with the Taliban, Tom West said.
The declarations were stated during the first mission of the new US envoy for Peace in Afghanistan in Brussels, NATO headquarters.
US officials have repeatedly stated that they will not recognize the Taliban unless they form an inclusive government and respect the human rights of women and girls.
