In response to recent remarks by Amina Jane Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, advocating for a meeting to formally recognize the Taliban, the Women’s Movement for Peace and Freedom has expressed its opposition.
In a statement released on Wednesday, April 19, the movement condemned Mohammed’s statements as contradicting the values of human rights and the UN’s main mission and ignoring the basic rights of Afghan women.
The Women’s Movement for Peace and Freedom accused Mohammed of making hasty and irresponsible remarks, citing the removal of women from Afghan society following the Taliban’s takeover.
The statement called on all active groups, national and international figures, fronts, parties, and women’s movements to declare their clear and unequivocal position on this issue.
The movement continues to urge national and international communities not to let UN officials submit to the Taliban’s inhumane demands and bury Afghan women alive.
It should be noted that a widespread campaign to condemn Amina Mohammed’s recent remarks has been launched on social media.
