The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says the rights of all Afghans, especially women and girls, must be respected in this country.
In a tweet on Tuesday, UNAMA expressed concern over the Taliban’s recent decisions to prevent women and girls from entering parks and recreational areas.
“UNAMA is deeply concerned by recent Taliban officials’ statements & mounting on-the-ground reports of women being prevented from using parks, gyms and baths,” UNAMA tweeted.
“All Afghans’ rights should be upheld, particularly women’s access to all forms of public life and girls’ right to education.”
These statements are made while the Taliban’s Vice and Virtue Ministry has recently banned the presence of women and girls in the public parks of Kabul.
After the decision, Amnesty International also called this another violation of women’s rights and added that any such decision by the Taliban should be canceled immediately.
