Josep Borrell, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, has discussed the situation in Afghanistan in a meeting with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the president of Uzbekistan.
In a tweet on Saturday, Borrell said the EU’s concern over the situation in Afghanistan was discussed in the meeting with Uzbek top official and added that controlling the situation along the Afghan-Uzbek border is on the agenda of the European Union and Uzbekistan.
“The concerns of our partners are important to the EU. We want to face challenges together,” said Borrell.
In a newsletter meanwhile, the Office of the President of Uzbekistan also said that international issues, and regional cooperation in Central Asia, including the improvement of the situation in Afghanistan, were discussed in this meeting.
It is not clear however what concerns the two sides have over the situation in Afghanistan and the border areas between the two countries.
Earlier, some of Afghanistan’s neighbors, including the officials of Tajikistan, also had expressed concern and said that thousands of terrorists are present along the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
