Asif Durrani, former Pakistani representative on Afghanistan, has echoed the remarks of Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari regarding the Taliban, warning that the group’s support for terrorists could have dangerous repercussions.
On Monday, February 9, Durrani referred to Afghanistan, stating that terrorism flourishes in environments where it is tolerated and facilitated.
He wrote: “Allowing terrorist groups to operate from Afghan soil, coupled with India’s use of proxy forces to destabilize Pakistan, is a dangerous path with severe regional and global consequences.”
Durrani emphasized that peace requires responsibility, not denial.
These remarks come a day after Pakistan’s president stated that the Taliban have placed Afghanistan in a worse situation than before September 11.
Zardari warned that if terrorist groups are supported or facilitated beyond a country’s borders, innocent people across the world will bear the cost.
