Reports from the provincial hospital of Badakhshan indicate a surge in measles cases across the province.
A credible source at the provincial hospital of Badakhshan confirmed to the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Sunday, February 4th, that since the start of the current solar year, the hospital has recorded at least nine thousand, seven hundred, and seventy-six cases of measles.
Among these cases, twenty-one children have tragically succumbed to the illness.
The source attributes the rise in measles cases in Badakhshan to a shortage of medication and other essential health facilities at the provincial hospital.
Meanwhile, residents of Badakhshan have voiced deep concern over the escalating spread of the disease, urging international relief agencies to prioritize efforts to prevent its further proliferation.
They note that measles has also reached remote districts of Badakhshan, where health centers are grappling with shortages of medication and medical personnel.
It is important to highlight that since the Taliban regained control of Afghanistan, the country’s health sector has encountered significant challenges, including a scarcity of healthcare workers and personnel.
Moreover, restrictions imposed on female employees within relief agencies have hindered the delivery of essential aid to the population, particularly in the health sector.
