According to local sources in the Faryab province of northern Afghanistan, a woman and a teenage girl have taken their own lives in the past 24 hours.
Local sources informed Hasht-e Subh that on Monday, May 15, a young woman ended her life by consuming rat poison in the village of Kooh-e Sayad in the Shirin-Tagab district of Faryab.
The sources state that the young woman was 19 years old and left behind a child.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl hanged herself in the Bol-Charagh district of Faryab.
The girl’s name was Mahbooba.
Family violence is said to be the reason behind the suicides of both women and the girl in Faryab.
Suicides among women and girls in Faryab have recently been on the rise.
Three days ago, a young girl in the Gharziwan district of Faryab also ended her life by consuming rat poison.
