Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Türkiye, says that artificial intelligence and robotics are changing the global labor market at an unprecedented speed.
Turkey’s Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) reported on Tuesday, April 28, that Erdogan made these remarks at the 6th Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Skills Summit in Istanbul.
Erdogan said the world is experiencing a transformation in the labor market on a scale similar to the Industrial Revolution, where old jobs are disappearing while new professions are emerging at the same time.
He also described fully automated factories as a sign of a big structural change in work, adding that the global robotics market value is expected to reach around 25 trillion dollars by 2050.
Erdogan warned that countries’ lack of preparation for these changes could lead to increased social inequality.
In part of his speech, he emphasized the importance of technical and vocational education and increasing employment opportunities for young people, saying Türkiye aims to bring three million young people into the labor market within the next three years.
These remarks come as countries around the world are warning about the impact of the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence on jobs and the future of employment.
