The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has raised concerns over the unregulated expansion of Firozkoh, the capital of Ghor Province.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 22, UN-Habitat noted that the city of Firozkoh has expanded significantly from 1985 to 2025.
According to the agency, unplanned urban growth leads to the formation of informal settlements.
UN-Habitat stated that this trend puts pressure on infrastructure and deepens social inequality.
“The time has come to steer Firozkoh’s transformation toward an inclusive and resilient city for all,” the organization emphasized.
UN-Habitat had previously issued a similar warning regarding the uncontrolled expansion of Herat city.
