In continuation of the registration of positive polio cases in the country, the fifth instance of this disease has now been recorded in Nangarhar.
Dr. Nek Mohammad, the head of the polio eradication campaign in Nangarhar, announced on Sunday, June 18th, that a new positive polio case has been registered in the Durbaba district of Nangarhar, affecting a child.
While Dr. Mohammad did not provide further details regarding the age and circumstances of the child’s polio contraction, he confirmed that the child tested positive for the disease following a thorough examination.
It is worth noting that on June 2nd of this year, the fourth positive polio case was also registered in the Sarchah Ali Khan village of Beshood district, Nangarhar.
Despite the earlier optimism expressed by various active health organizations about the opportunities for polio eradication in Afghanistan this year, the registration of new cases of this disease has raised concerns regarding the progress of the ongoing fight against it.
